So why Zocalo UK?

Zocalo is a moniker I've had since way back when... it's probably been with me ever since I saw it used as a name for a restauraunt in Disneyland! It also resonated with me when it was used as the name of the marketplace in J. Michael Straczynski television sci-fi masterpiece Babylon 5. Afterall I've had over 20 years experience in sales and retailing so my life has become a bit of a marketplace now...

Indeed if you follow the Wiki link you learn that;

"The Zócalo (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈsokalo]plinth) is the main plaza or square in the heart of the historic center of Mexico City." (below)

Which brings me back to Disneyland again... the Zocalo there was Mexican themed... as a quick trip back to California reveals...

Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante

Bring all your amigos and indulge in classic Mexican cuisine on a beautiful bougainvillea-shaded hacienda patio. Exotic painted tiles, flowing fountains and stunning Mexican glass lanterns adorn the peaceful oasis. Sit back relax at this quick-service, fiesta-style restaurant.
History
"Rancho del Zocalo" translates to mean "Ranch of the Square" in English. The word "zocalo" has an interesting history at Disneyland Park. The open area at the entrance to Frontierland used to be called "El Zocalo" or "town square."

Further searches will lead you to one of the foremost designers & suppliers of unique furniture designs manufactured in different locations worldwide. (http://www.zocalo.ie/), of which I have NO affiliation. (Hence the UK addition).

Whereas Zocalousa will also lead you to more furniture.... (http://www.zocalousa.com/default.aspx).

But for me the very nature of this blog is summed up by calling it Zocalo UK. It is an opportunity for you to turn off your i-phones, ignore the pS3 or Xbox for ten seconds, make yourself comfortable in your chair and spend a few moments with your internet neighbours.

It's called Zocalo UK - the Mexican word for town square because it's where - just as in Mexico - people can meet, maybe eat and drink, whilst others just sit and talk.

Kick back, open that beer, pour that glass of wine. Unwrap that chocolate thats sitting on the table next to you... and indulge yourself!

Now you know why I'm Zocalo UK...

BLOG or not to BLOG?

So why does anyone read blogs, anyway?
Writers spend hour after hour honing their unpublished texts, searching for the exquisite word, the finely turned phrase, the well-coiled paragraph, and yet apparently the majority of what is read now is here on the internet -  "blogs", the before-and-afterthoughts of milions of wanna be writers, ideas thrown down on the digital paper without regard, like children spilling paint. Rolf Harris has a lot to answer for in that metaphor.
Maybe that’s all a blog is, a catalogue of a writers’ recycle bin that never got emptied.  I've read many, but never shared... and now inspired by lyrics from the Anna Nalick song "Breathe 2am" (check it out UK -ites... American songstress who is very talented... but you guys never got Sarah McLachlan either and she is a class act!) I've decided, now in 2012 - a full twelve years after I originally intended to start - to "write it all down".
As Ms. Nalick rightfully observes...
"2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a [blog]
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to.." (@ A. Nalick)
So life might be an hourglass glued to the table, but I'm recording the grains of sand from now on.
I’m not yet sure to what extent this blog will be musical, entertaining, environmental, political, literary, or none of the above, (possibly even nothing at all!), but for awhile I’ll consider whether there’s any life in my scraps. Or indeed if anyone is interested in reading them...
Happy Blogosphering...
